Presbyterian Blue Hose men’s tennis player Matija Samardzic has been named the Big South Conference Player of the Week, according to an announcement from the conference office on Wednesday. Samardzic becomes the 18th player in program history to receive the Big South Freshman of the Week honor.
Last week, Samardzic contributed to a 4-3 victory for Presbyterian over Chattanooga by winning both his singles and doubles matches. He partnered with David Mamalat for a 6-1 win at number one doubles, securing the doubles point for their team. In singles play, he earned a three-set victory with scores of 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 at number three singles.
This season, Samardzic and Mamalat have recorded five doubles wins together. Their performance has placed them at No. 56 in this week’s ITA National Doubles Rankings. In singles competition, Samardzic has achieved three victories so far.
