Presbyterian defeats Gardner-Webb behind four players scoring in double figures

The Presbyterian Blue Hose men’s basketball team secured a 68-62 victory over the Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs at the Templeton Center on Saturday. The win brings Presbyterian’s record to 12-13 overall and 5-5 in Big South Conference play, while Gardner-Webb falls to 3-22 overall and 1-9 in conference.

Four players from Presbyterian scored in double figures. Carl Parrish led all scorers with 16 points and was perfect from the free throw line, making all six attempts. Jaylen Peterson contributed a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Khalon Hudson came off the bench to add 12 points, shooting efficiently from both the field and the free throw line. Triston Wilson also reached double digits with 10 points, while Jonah Pierce collected 10 rebounds.

Presbyterian recorded a total of 40 points in the paint during the game.

In the first half, both teams exchanged leads before Gardner-Webb took control late in the period, entering halftime ahead by five points at 36-31. Hudson led Presbyterian with 12 first-half points.

After halftime, Presbyterian opened strong, scoring eight of the first ten points to take a brief lead. Parrish was instrumental during this stretch. The teams continued to trade baskets until Presbyterian went on a run midway through the second half, building an eight-point advantage. Gardner-Webb responded with a scoring run of their own but could not regain control late in the game. Wilson’s dunk put Presbyterian ahead for good with five minutes remaining, and Parrish sealed the win with free throws in the final seconds.

“Parrish’s 16 points marked his 18th double-digit scoring game this season.
Peterson recorded his second straight double-double and his fourth of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Hudson scored in double-figures in both of Presbyterian’s wins over Gardner-Webb this season. Hudson’s 12 points were his fourth double-figure scoring game of the season.
Wilson tallied his 12th double-figure scoring game of the season with his 10 points.
Pierce’s 10 rebounds were his 14th double-figure rebound game of the season.”

Presbyterian will begin a two-game road trip within conference play at Charleston Southern on Thursday, February 12.
