Presbyterian College’s men’s tennis team secured a 4-3 victory against the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga on Sunday. The match was decided by Gabriel Godoy, who came from behind to win his singles match in three sets.
In doubles play, Presbyterian won the point for the fourth time this season. David Mamalat and Matija Samardzic earned their fifth win of the year with a 6-1 result over Jakub Jupa and TJ Ryerson at number one doubles. Chattanooga took court three, but Thomas Anderson and Dario Navarro clinched the doubles point for Presbyterian with a 7-5 win against Jaxon Lamb and Carter Ramthun at number two.
Chattanooga tied the overall score after winning on court one in singles. Daksh Prasad regained the lead for Presbyterian by defeating Kristof Kincses 6-4, 6-2 on court two. Matija Samardzic then extended the lead to 3-1 after winning his match at number three singles in three sets. However, Chattanooga responded with victories at numbers four and five singles to tie the contest.
The deciding match came down to Gabriel Godoy on court six. After losing the first set 6-4, he rallied to take the next two sets 6-4, 6-2, sealing the win for Presbyterian.
Presbyterian is scheduled to return home for a doubleheader against Belmont Abbey this Wednesday at Templeton Tennis Courts.
