The Presbyterian College men’s wrestling team is set to compete in its final two non-conference duals of the season, facing Brown University and Lock Haven University on Friday at Davidson College. The Blue Hose, under head coach Mark Cody, are seeking their first win of the winter after starting the season 0-6.
Presbyterian will wrestle Brown at 10:00 AM, followed by a match against Lock Haven at 2:30 PM. Both matches will take place inside Davidson’s gymnasium. This marks only the second meeting between Presbyterian and Brown; the Blue Hose won their previous encounter three seasons ago in Pennsylvania. The upcoming match with Lock Haven will be the first-ever dual between the two programs.
Presbyterian recently suffered a loss to Appalachian State, falling 46-4 in Clinton. Despite this defeat, there was a highlight for PC as Reed Douglass secured a major decision victory over Joe Zovistoski of Appalachian State. This marked Douglass’ 20th career win and his third conference victory this season.
Brown enters Friday’s competition with a 2-1 record and is led by head coach Jordan Leen. The Bears have not competed in a dual since December 5, instead focusing on tournament play throughout the northeast. Their only loss came against then-ranked #6 Nebraska.
Lock Haven competes in the Mid-American Conference for wrestling and has been ranked #9 in the NWCA’s mid-major Top-25 rankings earlier this month. Under head coach Scott Moore, Lock Haven has recorded wins over Long Island, Clarion, Binghamton, and Princeton this season and faced Big Ten opponents such as Wisconsin, Northwestern, and Indiana. At their most recent tournament on January 9 at Franklin & Marshall, Ousmane Duncanson finished second in his weight class.
Friday’s event provides an opportunity for Presbyterian to secure its first win of the season as they close out non-conference play before returning to Southern Conference action.
