Presbyterian College’s softball team is set to face the Queens Royals in a doubleheader at home on Tuesday, continuing a series that has taken place over the past four seasons. The games will begin at 2:00 p.m. and are available for streaming on ESPN+.
The Blue Hose have previously played Queens in various locations, including Clinton, Charlotte, and Rock Hill. Last year’s neutral site game ended with Presbyterian securing a 5-2 win in eight innings.
Head coach David Williams recently celebrated his 150th victory with Presbyterian after defeating Mercer. Williams has led the team to four wins over Queens in their last five meetings.
Presbyterian comes into this matchup with an 11-7 record following a strong week where they went 5-1 and recorded a shutout against North Carolina A&T. Their most recent game was a decisive 12-2 win over Mercer under the mercy rule.
Queens is coached by Kella Armstrong, who is in her third year and was previously recognized as a Division II All-American. The Royals currently hold a 3-9 record after winning 16 games last season. They exited early from the ASUN Tournament last May after losing to Lipscomb. This season, their victories have come against Tennessee Tech, Lehigh, and Marist.
After defeating Marist on Saturday by a score of 7-1, Queens faced nationally-ranked South Carolina less than a day later and lost both games of that series.
Addison Kluck, a freshman pitcher for Queens who has already thrown more than 44 innings this season, is expected to play prominently against Presbyterian. Graduate student Lindsay Henson leads the Royals offensively with seven home runs and five doubles so far this year.
Presbyterian performed well at the recent Mercer Invitational tournament, recording two consecutive shutouts for the first time since 2023 before beating Mercer by ten runs. Coach Williams secured his milestone victory during this stretch against an opponent that reached an NCAA Regional Championship last spring.
Defensively, Presbyterian leads the Big South Conference with a staff ERA of 3.04. Junior pitcher Avery Robinson won three games within five days and teamed up with Peyton Duncan for a combined total of 32 strikeouts last week. Robinson is among only 25 pitchers nationwide to achieve multiple shutouts in the current season.
The Blue Hose average nearly six strikeouts per seven innings—another conference-leading statistic—and have scored 87 runs so far this year, ranking fourth in their league.
Freshman Hali Duke currently holds the highest batting average on the team at .426 and leads Presbyterian with six doubles, sixteen RBIs, and two home runs.
