The Presbyterian College women’s basketball team was defeated 88-62 by Charleston Southern in a Big South Conference game on Saturday at Buccaneer Fieldhouse in Charleston, South Carolina.
Charleston Southern established control early, scoring the first eight points and maintaining a double-digit lead for most of the contest. The Buccaneers shot 60 percent from the field in the first half and finished the game shooting 55.8 percent.
Krystal Haddock led Presbyterian with 14 points and six rebounds. Ja’Cia Cunningham contributed 12 points and seven rebounds, while Ore Ogunwolere added 10 points, including her eighth three-pointer of the season. Yolanda Floyd scored five points, all in the fourth quarter, marking her highest total in a conference game this season. Aminata Tal led the Blue Hose defensively with three steals, while Haddock and Ogunwolere each recorded two steals. Samantha Mullock had her fourth block of the year.
In the first quarter, Charleston Southern built an early advantage and ended the period leading 23-13. The Buccaneers extended their lead to 31-13 early in the second quarter before Presbyterian reduced the deficit to ten points after a three-pointer from Ogunwolere. However, Charleston Southern responded with an 11-2 run to close out the half ahead 46-27.
Haddock scored three baskets early in the third quarter for Presbyterian, but Charleston Southern maintained its momentum and entered the final period with a 68-49 lead. In the fourth quarter, Amani Williams made her first basket for Presbyterian, and Floyd added all five of her points late in the game. Haddock scored Presbyterian’s final basket as Charleston Southern secured a conference win.
Presbyterian will have a week off before hosting Gardner-Webb next Saturday at 2:00 p.m. for its Black History Month Game.
