Presbyterian women’s basketball falls to USC Upstate in conference matchup

The Presbyterian College women’s basketball team was defeated by USC Upstate, 58-38, in a Big South Conference game at the G.B. Hodge Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The Blue Hose started strong with a 12-10 lead after the first quarter but were outscored 48-26 over the remaining three quarters.

USC Upstate limited Presbyterian to just 25.9 percent shooting from the field and held a significant rebounding advantage, collecting 41 boards compared to Presbyterian’s 30. Despite forcing 21 turnovers and recording 10 steals on defense, the Blue Hose could not overcome their offensive struggles.

Ja’Cia Cunningham led Presbyterian with 12 points, making three three-pointers to set a new season-high and tie her career-best mark. She also tied for the team lead with three steals. “Ja’Cia Cunningham paced the Presbyterian offense for the second straight game, leading the Blue Hose with 12 points. She drained three three-pointers for the game, setting a new season-high and tying her career-high. She also tied the team lead with three steals against the Spartans. On the season, she has now scored in double figures eight times to lead the team.”

Krystal Haddock contributed nine points while Ore Ogunwolere added seven points for Presbyterian. Amani Williams made her first collegiate start and achieved career highs in both rebounds (seven) and steals (three). “Amani Williams made her first career collegiate start for Presbyterian, grabbing a career-high seven rebounds. Defensively, she also logged a career-high three steals.”

Presbyterian will return home to play UNC Asheville on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., with coverage available on ESPN+.
