The Presbyterian College women’s tennis team lost 5-2 to UNC Wilmington on Sunday, starting March with a road defeat. The match took place at the UNCW Courts.
Presbyterian secured the doubles point early in the contest. Grace Katzman and Mary Ellen Longmire won their match on doubles court two with a score of 6-2. After UNC Wilmington took the top doubles court, Roxy Valdes and Ladina Bruin clinched the doubles point for Presbyterian by winning 6-4 on court three.
In singles play, UNC Wilmington tied the overall score by winning on the top court. Luciana Parrilli responded for Presbyterian with a straight-set victory on court four, giving her team a brief 2-1 lead.
UNC Wilmington then gained control of the match, taking victories in singles courts two, three, five, and six to secure their win. Sofia Rodrigo Hidalgo and Mary Ellen Longmire both forced third sets in their matches on courts five and six but were defeated in the deciding sets.
The order of finish for doubles was courts two, one, and three. For singles, it was courts one, four, three, two, five, and six.
Looking ahead, Presbyterian will remain on the road for another match next Saturday against Wofford at 11:00 a.m.
