Greenwood County SC Government issued the following announcement on September 7.
We had another super successful Community Clean Up this Saturday. This time we went out to the College Heights-Booker T. Washington Community and managed to clean up about 1,300 lbs of trash off of the streets. Over 20 volunteers picked up trash while Steve Sparks with the City of Greenwood Sanitation followed our route with his knuckle boom loader truck picking up our full bags and picking up anything too big for us to fit in our bags. We were able to pick up so much more with a knuckle boom loader helping (check out the last picture of the back of his truck)!
A special thanks to members of the County Council that came out and helped support the clean up efforts, Edith Childs (District 1) and Melissa Spencer (District 3). City of Greenwood police followed the groups of volunteers as they walked through the neighborhoods keeping them safe. And thank you to Annie Blocker for helping to organize the members in her neighborhood to help out.
It really takes a community to keep our county clean!
The next Community Clean Up will be October 9th at 8am in the Gage Street Community. Keep an eye out for the flier!
