College Community to Participate in MLK Weekend Events | Picryl
NEWBERRY — The Newberry College community is invited to a slate of events for the upcoming Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend. All events are open to students, alumni, faculty and staff.
Saturday, Jan. 14, at 5 p.m.
The Newberry College African American Alumni Chapter will host its inaugural Black-Tie Gala, to be held at the Center for Teacher Education, 1121 Speers St. Admission is $30, and proceeds will benefit scholarships and other chapter efforts. Click here to register.
Sunday, Jan. 15, at 2:30 p.m.
Members of the College community are encouraged to be part of the City of Newberry’s MLK Parade, first held in 2019. Line-up begins at 1 p.m. along Calhoun St.
Monday, Jan. 16, at 9:30 a.m.
Everyone is invited to participate in the MLK March and Program, the staple of local King celebrations since 2001. This event is led by county councilman Travis Reeder and sponsored by Newberry County. The march will begin at Miller Chapel AME Church, 500 Caldwell St., and end at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1501 College St., with a program to follow at 10 a.m.
Monday, Jan. 16, at 1 p.m.
Newberry College’s Muller Center will sponsor an MLK Day of Service at the former Gallman High School, 540 Brantley St. in Newberry. This is part of an ongoing effort to revitalize the facility as a community center.
