"On this day in 1836, William Barret Travis sent this letter to the American people. Travis also happens to be a son of South Carolina from Saluda.
Travis, a lieutenant colonel in the Texas army, died at age 26 defending the Alamo. Without South Carolina, there would be no Texas."
