Student Featured in Solo Exhibit | Lander University
Lander University Master of Arts in Teaching candidate Brianna Shumate, in foreground, a student teacher at Pinecrest Elementary in Greenwood, discusses her students’ artwork with visitors to the Lander Art Gallery on Thursday, March 16. Ceramics, oil paintings and photography by Shumate were also included in the exhibit. Shumate, of Myrtle Beach, has accepted a job with Thornwell Charter School in Clinton, and according to Assistant Professor of Art Kristen Applegate, who coordinates Lander’s Art Education program, she will be a strong teacher. “I’ve been very impressed with how professional she’s been throughout her student teaching, as well as setting up this exhibit. She really rose to the occasion,” Applegate said.
